Lok Satta prez to go on 3-day hunger strike
Lok Satta Party president and MLA N Jayaprakash Narayan plans to undertake a three-day hunger strike for three days from December 5 to raise public awareness on the 'Surajya movement' launched recently.
The fast is in support of three demands— institution of a strong and independent Lok Ayukta, enactment of a law to guarantee basic services to people and devolution of 10 per cent of the state budget to village panchayats and municipal wards.
The 'Surajya movement' focuses on two other issues: comprehensive reforms to ensure quality education and healthcare to all and replacement of the first-past-the post electoral system by proportional representation.
Speaking to reporters, Narayan, who is the convener of the 'Surajya movement', and other leaders said they would meet Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on November 29 and request him to act on the demands which do not cost the exchequer an extra rupee.
