Logjam continues in Odisha assembly

A logjam continued Thursday in the Odisha assembly for the seventh consecutive day as both the opposition and ruling BJD members disrupted the proceedings of the house, leading to its adjournment till 3 p.m.

Soon after the house assembled for the day, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) members holding banners and placards on chit fund scam stood up seeking to corner the ruling party for its alleged involvement in the scam.
The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) members raised slogans supporting Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. The speaker adjourned the assembly while the Congress members continued their protest.
The Congress members, wearing black bands on their mouths, protested with banners against the scam. However, both the opposition and treasury benches blamed each other for the continued impasse in the state assembly.
"We will continue our protest till the chit fund issue is not discussed in the house. But unfortunately, the BJD is disrupting the proceedings to avoid a discussion on the scam. We condemn the move of the ruling party," Congress chief whip Taraprasad Bahinipati told reporters.
BJD chief whip Ananta Das said: "We are ready to discuss every issue in the house. But, the opposition parties are creating ruckus."
