Kuppam: A woman was stripped and thrashed in full public glare reportedly by the members of the ruling TDP, in Chitoor's Kuppam constituency, which is being represented by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

According to the police, the victim was identified as Uma of Gunjarlapalli village in Santhipuram mandal, Kuppam. She had an ongoing dispute with a woman named Bhagyalakshmi of the same village over a petty issue.

During Janmabhoomi-Ma Vuru programme recently, Uma along with her husband lodged a complaint with the elected representatives, against Bhagyalakshmi. However, the TDP leaders did not heed to their complaint as they belonged to the principal opposition party — YSRCP.

On Wednesday, Uma along with her husband happened to be in the neighbourhood when Bhagyalakshmi saw them. Bhagyalakshmi began abusing them and also called her relatives.

Later, the altercation soon spiralled out of control. Uma was stripped by the road while her husband was badly beaten up by the members of Bhagyalakshmi's family. One of the local residents filmed the incident and leaked it to the media.

Following a complaint from the couple, a case has been registered against Bhagyalakshmi and her family members. Three people have so far been arrested.

Meanwhile, YSRCP MLA Roja condemned the incident. Speaking to media persons, she said that there is no protection for women in the state. She recalled several such incidents like Tahsildar Vanajakshi, call money sex racket and attack on Dalit woman in Visakhapatnam.
