Lady doctor kills self over dowry harassment
Hyderabad: A female MBBS doctor committed suicide on Monday night by hanging herself due to alleged dowry harassment by her husband and in-laws in Medipally on the city outskirts. According to victim's family her husband B. Prithviraj, who is also a doctor killed her.
Inspector B. Naveen Reddy said that the incident took place at 8pm on Monday when Bhavani hanged herself to a ceiling fan. The family members got suspicious of Bhavani's absence and knocked the door of her room. As she didn't respond they broke open the door to find her dead.
The official also said "No suicide note has been found. But the family says it is a murder for dowry."
Dr Bhavani's relatives said that victims husband used to harass and assault her frequently for dowry and the the harassment increased over the past few weeks.
“At the time of marriage we had given a dowry of Rs 5 lakh, 100 gram gold and 500 gram silver. But her in-laws and husband kept on demanding more money,” said the victim’s elder sister Swati.
Police have registered a dowry death case against Dr B. Prithviraj, his parents and his two sisters.
Dr Bhavani did her MBBS from China and married Prithviraj two-and-half years ago. The couple has a four-month-old son. The victim, a native of Warangal, was living with her husband at P&T Colony at Medipally.
