Hyderabad: The University College for Women, popularly known as Koti Women's College will soon be upgraded as Women's University of Telangana. A decision towards this has been taken by state education minister Kadiam Srihari and has called for proper evaluation of the college, it facilities and infrastructure so that they could work out the modalities for upgrading it into a University.

Deputy CM and education minister during a surprise visit to the Koti Women's College told the authorities that he would like this to be developed on the lines of Padmavati Women's University in Tirupati. If the university status will be given to Koti College then this will be the first women's university in Telangana.

“We will upgrade the college into a women’s university from the next academic year after getting nod from chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao,” he said. The education minister had earlier raised the topic of a women's university for Telanagana with union HRD minister Prakash Javedkar, who had expressed the need

Srihari interacted with students about the teaching faculty and other amenities available in the college. He mentioned that with very good facilities available, the college was not doing research, this a major drawback.

The college was started in 1924. It was moved to its present location belonging to James Achilles Kirkpatrick’s mansion Koti Residency in 1949. The college offers graduate and postgraduate courses for women. Spread over 40 acres, the college is offering 42 courses.
