Kiran bent on saving Dharmana by rejecting CBI plea
Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy helped Roads and Buildings Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao breath a little easy by rejecting the CBI request to sanction his prosecution in the case pertaining to Vanipic land allotments.
The Cabinet meeting chaired recently by Kiran Kumar Reddy recommended rejecting the CBI plea and Dharmana's resignation.
The minister’s letter was earlier forwarded to Governor E S L Narasimhan which is yet to be accepted by him.
The CM who was speaking at a public meeting at Uppal to launch the Phase II of Metro Rail project, made it clear that his ministers were not involved in quid pro quo deals.
Defending Dharmana he said that “the minister had gone by rules and did not commit any mistake”. It is understood that Dharmana will go ‘Scott free’ from the CBI probe.
After providing a safety route to Dharmana, the CM is trying to save the other ministers who have received notices from the Supreme Court in the case. A few months ago the Supreme Court had issued notices to as many as six ministers in Kiran Kumar’s Cabinet in the Vanipic case.
Several leaders say that they are not able to understand as to why the CM did not make his view clear to the Supreme Court and also why he was blind to Mopidevi's plight, but is trying to pave the way out for other ministers in this case.
