Kin Of NEET Student Anitha Refuse To Accept Rs 7 Lakh Cheque From Govt
Chennai: Kin of NEET student 17-year-old Anitha, who committed suicide for not getting admission in a medical college, on Monday refused to accept the Tamil Nadu government's aid of Rs 7 lakh.
Ariyalur District Collector G Lakshmi Priya visited the bereaved family members at their house on Monday to give the cheque but the family members refused to take it.
Anitha, the daughter of Dalit daily-wage-labourer, had scored 1,176 marks out of 1,200 in her board exams in the state. However, she failed to get good score in the NEET (National Eligibility and Entrance Test).
The Supreme Court ordered last month that the admissions would be given on the basis of the NEET marks.
Anitha challenged the NEET exam in the Supreme Court stating that poor students like her could not crack the NEET exam because she could not afford the coaching that urban students get.
Anitha hanged herself at her house after she failed to get an admission to a medical college. This led to largescale protests across the state since Friday.
