Khammam Couple To Undergo DNA Test To Claim Geeta Back
Hyderabad: A couple from Khammam claiming to be parents of Geeta, the deaf and dumb girl returned from Pakistan after 15 years, is undergoing a DNA test in Delhi on Tuesday to prove their parentage.
Kistaiah (58) and Gopamma (52) along with their another daughter traveled to Delhi claiming the girl is their daughter who went missing in 2006. They said all the features of Geeta are matching with their missing daughter who was also deaf and dumb. They say the girl was 11-12 years of age when she went missing.
Several people earlier claimed to be Geeta's parents, but the DNA tests proved otherwise.
Geeta, the deaf and mute girl who returned to India from Pakistan, is staying at an institution in Indore for the hearing impaired.
"I didn’t get an opportunity to study during childhood…now I am concentrating on completing my studies," she says.
Last year, On October 26, nearly 15 years after she accidentally crossed over to Pakistan, Geeta, whose story has touched people on both sides of the border, returned to India.
Geeta, now 23, was reportedly just 7 or 8 years old when she was found sitting alone on the Samjhauta Express by the Pakistan Rangers at the Lahore railway station.
She was adopted by the Edhi Foundation’s Bilquis Edhi and lived with her in Karachi.
Her story came to light after the release of Salman Khan starrer ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ in which the hero unites a girl separated from her Pakistani mother who was visiting India.
