KBR park attacker to be produced in court today - Sakshi Post

Hyderabad: Police have picked up a constable of Andhra Pradesh Special Police (APSP), who had once worked with anti-Naxal Greyhounds force, in connection with Wednesday's failed attempt to abduct vice-chairman of Aurobindo Pharma K Nityananda Reddy.

The constable was identified as P Obulesu. Police nabbed him on late Thursday night in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh, a senior police officer said, adding that he was being brought here and would be produced before the court on Friday afternoon.

Obulesu confessed to police that his prime intention was only to demand money after the kidnap. Police said he could be produced before the media on Friday.

Obulesu was suspected to be the one who tried to kidnap Reddy. He is at present deputed to the Excise Department.

In an audacious bid, a man wielding an AK-47 rifle tried to kidnap Reddy after he got into his car after a morning walk outside Kasu Brahmananda Reddy Park at around 7.15 am on Wednesday.

The attacker, now identified as Obulesu, entered from the other door and pointed the weapon at Reddy and demanded money.

However, Reddy warded him off with the help of his brother who was present around even as bullets went off in the scuffle though nobody got hurt.

The AK-47 rifle, which the assailant left in the car before fleeing, was identified as the one lost by Greyhounds in December last year, police had said.

Obulesu, a native of Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh, was on leave for 15 days since November 11. He was recruited as constable in APSP second battalion at Kurnool in 1998 and deputed to Greyhounds from 2002 to March 2014. Police identified him from the CCTV footage.
