Chittoor: Chintu alias Chandrasekhar, the main accused in the sensational murder of Chittoor mayor Katari Anuradha and her husband Mohan on Monday surrered before the additional district court.Chintu was on the run after killing mayor and her husband who was his own maternal uncle on November 17. He, along with five of his gang men, shot Anuradha to death and stabbed Mohan with daggers due to which he died later in the evening.

Immediately after the incident, three of Chintu's followers who participated in the murder - Muruga, Manjunath and Venkatesh - were nabbed by the police at different places in the town. They reportedly admitted their crime and pointed to Chintu as their leader. However, the main accused is reported to have denied his role after surrender in the court. He said he had gone into hiding as he had threat to his life. He was accompanied by his two other friends Parandham and Haridasu while surrendering. The court remanded the accused to judicial custody for two weeks and the police filed a petition for his custody.
