Karnataka Ex-Governor V S Ramadevi passes away


V S Ramadevi (79) former Governor of Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh passed away in Bangalore on Wednesday afternoon after a brief illness. Ramadevi, a Telugu woman, worked as Chief Election Commissioner in 1990. She was the first woman governor for Karnataka. She was residing with her son in Hyderabad after retirement and she went to Bangalore for treatment.
Ramadevi was born at Chebrolu in West Godavari district and studied at Eluru. She did her law graduation and later joined in the central services as Group-I officer. She served in the government in different capacities as member secretary of Law commission, secretary to Government of India, honorary chairman of National Women’s Commission, secretary of Rajya Sabha and several key positions. She was also a renowned writer and authored several novels, stories. Her compilation of short stories “Devudiki Uttaram” showcased mentalities of different people in the society.
