Kapil Sharma Remuneration Is Rs110 Crore For His Comedy Show
Country's most popular stand-up comedian Kapil Sharma entered India's billionaires club by charging Rs110 crore for his Show on Sony Entertainment for the year 2017.
Kapil Sharma moved his popular comedy show The Kapil Sharma Show (previously known as Comedy Nights With Kapil) from Colors to Sony Entertainment in the beginning of 2016. The Kapil Sharma Show has worked wonders for the channel: Not only has this meant a big upward spike in the channel's ratings; he seems to have been single handedly responsible for revamping the channel's numbers.
Kapil's brand of comedy has become so popular that he is now commanding a whopping Rs 60-80 lakh per episode for his current season.
With the who's who of Bollywood visiting his show every weekend, the announcement that it has been greenlit for renewal is not surprising at all. SONY TV has signed The Kapil Sharma Show on for another year and they have renewed Kapil's contract till 2017 end for a whopping Rs110 crore.
An Indian Express report pointed out that, "Kapil is getting a whopping Rs 110 crore for his renewed yearlong stint with Sony and the makers are very happy with him and his show. They didn’t mind the pocket pinch because his show is the most profitable venture for them currently and they can’t let it go."
The comedian was in the news recently when he tweeted accusations against civic officials in Mumbai, of seeking a Rs 5 lakh bribe to regularise his office space. His tweet boomeranged, and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation in turn, claimed that the actor had flouted building norms not only in his Versova office building but also at his Goregaon apartment in Mumbai.
The controversies notwithstanding, Kapil Sharma’s popularity and his paycheck kept on growing bigger and bigger and he now makes the Bollywood stars jealous of the massive Rs110-crore contract.
It was going to happen sooner or later but we didn’t expect the news to come out already. Kapil Sharma is now the biggest TV star in the country after inking a new deal with Sony Entertainment Television for 2017.
Sony’s deal with Kapil proved highly profitable for the channel when he came on board after leaving Colors’ Comedy Nights With Kapil. His show is a big crowd puller on the weekends for the channel and his star power also helps bring in an array of big names from Bollywood, including Shah Rukh Khan, Ranveer Singh and more, to the show.
Compared to the earnings of international TV stars, Kapil’s kitty looks impressive: Rs 100 crore translates to $14.7 million. The highest paid international TV actor, according to Forbes magazine, is Jim Parsons of Big Bang Theory who took home $29 million in 2016. However, Kapil Sharma will earn more than Grey’s Anatomy’s Patrick Dempsey whose earnings were $12 million.
