Kanhaiya prevented at UoH gate, vows to fight for Rohith Act
Hyderabad: A determined Cyberabad police and the security of the University of Hyderabad (UoH) prevented JNU student leader Kanhaiya Kumar from entering into the university on Wednesday evening.
Kanhaiya, who came in a convoy of 20 vehicles, accompanied by Rohith Vemula's mother Radhika, brother Raja and CPI national secretary Narayana, was stopped at the UoH main gate. Heavy police bandobast at the main gate ensured that they could not go in.
The UoH has not granted any permission to president Kanhaiya Kumar to address a meeting on the campus. The vice-chancellor said none has approached the university for permission to hold a meeting.
Speaking to the waiting media, Kanhaiya condemned the denial of permission to enter into the university. "I am a student and a student is not being allowed into the university. The Government is not listening to the voice of the students,"he said and added that the struggle to get Rohith Act passed will continue. He called for realising the dreams of Rohith Vemula and wanted social justice to prevail.
CPI national secretary Narayana also condemned the denial of permission. He objected to the heavy deployment of police at the Central University and demanded that the VC step down immediately. He also alleged that the Siddhartha College, which initially gave permission to hold Kanhaiya's meeting at Vijayawada, has cancelled the programme. He said the Government was afraid of Kanhaiya and said the CPI would teach a fitting lesson to Modi Govt for persuing Hindutva agenda.
On Wednesday afternoon, the police swooped down on a hostel, where the students were preparing meals for the people who would attend Kanhaiya's meeting and resorted to lathicharge. As many as six students were injured in the lathicharge.
