John And Sonakshi’s ‘Force 2’ Roars At The Box Office
Seems like the woes of Demonetisation had no affect on Friday morning, as the box office began to tingle with earnings from new movie releases. John Abraham and Sonakshi Sinha’s “Force 2” earned an incredible Rs.6.05 crore on the first day!
‘Force 2’, is the second installment of the "Force" franchise, and also stars Tahir Raj Bhasin as the antagonist. With Abhinay Deo taking the director’s chair from Nishikant Kamat, the movie deals with a plot about a breach in the intelligence apparatus due to which RAW agents are being killed in China.
John Abraham returns to the role of ACP Yashvardhan Singh who partners with Sonakshi Sinha, a local operative in Budapest to locate the mole and tie-up the breach.
The movie which started off on Friday with a low turnout of 15-20 percent quickly added eyeballs and clocked in a respectable first day earnings of over Rs.6 crore, the highest ever for a John Abraham movie.
This prompted Akshaye Rathi the film distributor to say that going by the box office collections on Friday, Demonetisation impact on movies is a failed theory. He was however rebutted by others who pointed out that the turnout would have been close to 50 percent had there been no demonetisation.
They however seemed to have agreed on the point that “good content sells and bad content doesn’t!”
Arguments about the effects of demonetisation aside, it is perhaps too early to judge whether the movie content is good or bad or somewhere in between.
