Jayalalithaa swearing in on 17 doubtful?
After the Karnataka high court verdict of acquitting Jayalalithaa in the disproportional assets case, Purichi Thalaivi was excepted to regain her regime and swear in on may 17 as the Chief Minister of Tami Nadu.
But after all the demands that are on rise for an appeal over the verdict and the comments from public the AIDMK as well as Jayalalithaa seem to be having second thoughts. The AIDMK parliamentary member meeting that was supposed to be convened on May 15 was called off while the swearing in on 17 is still in question.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddharamayya stated that they would soon take a decision upon filing an appeal at the high court, and most other political parties are demanding an appeal too. PMK head Ramdoss said that if only the verdict be altered then there would be a scope for eradication of corruption. DMDK chief VijayKanth talking about the latest judgement in the Disproportionate assets case said that Jaya, pronounced guilty after 19 year long investigation was again pronounced innocent and acquitted in just in 3 mins by the KHC
All these have lead the AIDMK to think twice before acting. The party allies have it that a stand on the swearing in would be taken only after discussing pros and cons of the case and appeal with a judicial council. But all the 155 MLAs of the party were summoned to be available on the 17 despite the possibility of swearing in ceremony
There have been enough speculations that justice Kumara Swamy also has been mulling over his judgement given its negative reception by the public and most of the political Parties. Aslo the public prosecutor BV Acharya has stated that there were mistakes in the Verdict copy. Though the law doesn't permit for a withdrawal or change of verdict by the same court that delivered it but allows clerical and arithmetic errors to be corrected. So lets see if Jaya regains her regime this week or not and what due course the appeal would take.
