Hyderabad: After IT majors like Tech Mahindra, Wipro, Infosys and Cognizant went on a layoff spree, Global information technology (IT) services major IBM is likely to follow the suit. However, the company would ensure that the released employees are again deployed in other projects.

According to media reports, a few thousand employees are likely to be laid off from the IBM India unit soon. The decision to cut employees is due to the technology shift towards automation.

With increase in demand for digital technology-based services, the IBM India is looking at a target of achieving 100 percent utilisation where the company would ensure that none of its employees remain idle one on the bench.

Following cut in IT jobs, experts are warning the techies to upgrade themselves with new technologies to avoid layoff. Several studies and research reports also suggested that the Indian techies are lagging behind in learning new technologies as per the demands of the market.
