Rajahmundry: Internal differences in Telugu Desam party came to the fore with mayor P. Rajani Sesha Sai and Godavari Urban Development Authority chairman Ganni Krishna crossing swords over regarding Kambala Tank Park.

At a press conference here on Saturday, mayor P. Rajani Sesha Sai said that they were taking up developmental works in the entire city in a phased manner as it would not be possible to take all works at once. In a veiled reference to GUDA chairman Ganni Krishna who stated earlier that they would start development works of the park from November 27 onwards, she wondered how GUDA was related to development of a park in the city. Both Rajani Sesha Sai and Ganni Krishna belong to the ruling TDP.

Rajani was critical about the TD leader saying how he could claim credit for taking up development of the park when it was the civic body which had to fund such works. But when reporters asked her whether the park development works could be taken up by keeping the municipal corporation in the dark, she retorted strongly by saying that how could anyone take up such works without involving the municipal corporation.

Stating that some leaders of her own party are carrying out a misinformation campaign on resolutions passed by the municipal corporation Standing Committee on developmental works, the mayor asked those leaders to maintain party discipline. Explaining about the ongoing developmental works in the city, Rajani said that works worth about Rs31 crore were taken up during the tenure of first standing committee followed by works worth of Rs22.89 crore taken up during second standing committee. She said works worth Rs35.89 crore were taken up during the third standing committee period.

During the tenure of fourth standing committee, 31 works at a cost of Rs5.15 crore were proposed and out of them, 20 works were given acceptance while proposals for 11 works were under consideration, the city mayor said adding that works related to development of parks and roads were being taken up at a brisk pace in addition to developing AV Appa Rao Road and main railway station road. She said Rs50 lakh will be spent on developing Kambala Tank Park. She said Rajamundry municipal corporation is being developed on par with other corporations in the state.
