Indumathi cremated, angry people want punishment to stalkers
Eluru: The body of Indumathi, the girl who was set ablaze by two stalkers on Saturday night, was cremated at Chataparru village on Monday. The body was handed over after the completion of autopsy. A large number of people gathered to bid a teary farewell to the girl.
Indumathi's family members claimed that the police officers had neglected the complaint by them. Had they acted on time, the girl's life could have been saved, they said. State Women's Commission chairperson Nannapaneni Rajakumari consoled Indu's parents and said that the government will take action against accused.
Earlier on Sunday, members of the local civil society bodies raised slogans against the government and the police at the Eluru Government General Hospital and demanded compensation to the family of the girl. The police disrupted the attempts of the protesters to burn effigies.
State Women and Welfare Minister Pitala Sujatha also called the victim's family and consoled them. She ordered RDO Tej Bharath to give a compensation of Rs.2.50 lakh immediately for the parents.
