I Was Attacked for Trying to Save Government Land: Owaisi
Hyderabad: I was attacked because I was trying to save government land from encroachment by Mohammed Pahelwan and his associates,
Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen floor leader in the Assembly, Akbaruddin Owaisi informed the VII Additional Metropolitan Sessions judge here on Wednesday.
Akbaruddin Owaisi
Pahelwan’s associates threatened me of dire consequences for trying to protect government lands from encroachment.
Deposing before the judge regarding the murderous attack on him at Barkas in 2011, Akbaruddin said he was not able to use his weapon to defend himself during the attack as he sustained stab injuries. He then went on to demonstrate before the judge the attack on his left hand and his inability to cock the gun at the time of the attack.
Replying to a question by special public prosecutor Umamaheshwar Rao on what could be the reason for the attack, Akbaruddin said that he was making an effort to protect government land, which was being encroached upon by Mohammed Pahelwan, the prime accused, and his associates.
He claimed that on April 13 when he visited the various sites along with senior district officials, Pahelwan’s associates had threatened him of dire consequences. The MIM legislator informed the court that immediately after the murderous attack he was shifted to Owaisi hospital and later to Care and underwent multiple surgeries. His deposition is expected to continue on Thursday too.
