Hyderabad’s Temperature Rising Every Year: Study
Hyderabad: A recent study by Pune's Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) and the World Meteorological Organization in Geneva showed that Hyderabad is turning warmer and its mean temperature could be rising by about 0.18 degree Celsius every decade.
Major cities with population exceeding 20 lakh and cities with rapid urbanization have been warned of rising temperature in the study.
Incidentally, before industrialization in the country the city’s mean and maximum temperatures annually witnessed a decreasing temperature trend during 1901-1970
Incidentally, Pune topped the chart with highest rise in temperature from 1971-2013.
The findings for Hyderabad showed that the increased mean temperature trend during monsoon, post-monsoon and annual average temperature during 1971-2013.
Incidentally, before industrialization in the country the city’s mean and maximum temperatures annually witnessed a decreasing temperature trend during 1901-1970.
To combat effects of climate change including heat waves and flooding Telangana government is formulating a plan for its industries
Project Director and Team Leader for the Climate Change Adaptation Project Dr. Dieter Brulez said, "Even if we reduced all emissions to zero we cannot go back to the pre-emissions era immediately as existing carbon dioxide emissions will continue to make more severe the effects of climate change that we have witnessed."
It may be recalled that 180 countries ratified the recent Paris Agreement including India, which ratified it on October 2.
