September Rainfall In Hyderabad Breaks 111 Year Record
Hyderabad: Heavy rains lashed the city and many other parts of Telangana on Wednesday.
According to reports, the heavy rains led to water stagnation at several localities in the city, hitting the free movement of traffic. Traffic snarls were witnessed at many busy streets especially in the IT hub at Gachibowli here.
The Meteorological Centre here said that the Southwest monsoon has been vigorous over Telangana. According to the official data, Hyderabad recorded it's third wettest September day in past 100 years with 75 mm of rainfall on Wednesday.
According to the historical data available with the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the highest ever rainfall of 153 mm was reported in Hyderabad on September 27, 1908. The second highest was 90.2mm on September 6, 2017.
The water level in Hussain Sagar lake touched 513.7 meters where it can actually hold up to 514.9 meters, GHMC sources said to the daily.
According to reports, Union Minister of State for Home G Kishan Reddy, Lok Sabha member from Secunderabad, also spoke to the Chief Secretary and the GHMC Commissioner about the rain situation across the city. He also assured the Centre's support in the deployment of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) if required.
State Municipal Administration Minister KT Rama Rao tweeted, "We are witnessing the highest ever rainfall in September in over 100 plus years! I would like to thank the hardworking teams of @GHMCOnline, @HydTP, @TSSPDCLCorp".
According to the weather forecast for Thursday, the Meteorological Centre said heavy rains are likely to occur at isolated places in the city and across the state. Thundershowers are also likely to occur at many places over Telangana.
