Hyderabad Woman Duped By Nigerian In The Name Of Marriage

Hyderabad: Two persons including a Nigerian were arrested on Monday for cheating a city-based woman through a matrimonial site. The accused - Hari Singh Khatter and Pius, a Nigerian were arrested from New Delhi and were brought to the city on Tuesday and produced before the court on transit remand.

Pius created a profile in matrimonial website Jeevansathi.com under a fake name as Deepak Patel. He befriended the woman claiming to be an NRI who works as a civil engineer. Later, the duo chatted on WhatsApp and after exchanging views decided to get married. Pius then told the woman that he will visit her in April.

He called the woman and requested her to deposit Rs45,000 in order to release his luggage. On further request the woman paid Rs2.3 lakh as the accused promised to return after he reaches the city.

"As his demands kept increasing, the victim suspected the motive and lodged a complaint. Based on the call data record, mobile phone tower location and other clues, the duo was arrested," the official added. Hari Singh ran a mobile shop and was a close associate of Pius and helped him in his clandestine operations.
