Hyderabad Metro Rail Chugs Off Amidst Fanfare, 12,000 Smartcards Sold

Hyderabad: Metro Rail in Hyderabad has finally taken wings after it was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi amidst much fanfare in the city. According to officials, there will be a train every 15 minutes from Nagole to Miypur, plying the 30-km stretch from 6am to 10pm.
While the RTC bus including the express one takes nearly one hour fifty minutes to travel the distance (Nagole to Miypur), the journey in Metro rail will cut the travel time by half.
The officials said that a metro rail which has two compartments can accommodate about 1,000 persons. Meanwhile, the Hyderabad police under all the three Commissionerates will deploy constables at every metro station. Six policemen will be guarding every station in three shifts, the statement said. Police outposts have been set up in all the 24 Metro rail stations. As many as 12,000 smartcards have been sold within three days.
