Hyd group offers rescued dogs for free adoption
Bring home a forever friend this weekend: That is the slogan of a group of volunteers in Hyderabad offering rescued dogs for free adoption.
Some young working professionals and students have come together to form a group called Pawed Love in the city to rescue abandoned pets and strays and give them to families for adoption.
In the first such organised effort, the group is conducting its first adoption drive here Sunday, offering 18 dogs for adoption.
People who want to take dogs have to undergo a screening process, including an interview. The group said dogs would be given away only when they were assured that the owners are caring, sincere and responsible.
"What makes our adoption program unique is that we try to match the right family with the dog most suitable to them. We also encourage people to spend time with the dog before they take it home," said Kalyan Krishna, a software engineer.
Pawed Love will also provide pre- and post-adoptive counselling to help the dog and the family adjust to each other.
Krishna said that the group has 15 members, who themselves pitch in to bear the costs for treatment and vaccination of rescued dogs.
He said the group exchanged ideas with similar organisations in Mumbai, Delhi and other cities.
