Hospital ‘Mistreats’ Girl’s Dizziness, Amputates Hand

Vaishnavi - Sakshi Post

Hyderabad: A private hospital in the city began treatment on a girl who complained of dizziness, injected blood into her and began removing her limbs stating they are infected.

The tragic incident came to light when the parents of the hapless girl, Vaishnavi, spoke to the media here on Saturday. On January 3, Vaishnavi complained of dizziness and unexplained tiredness. Her parents took her to Prasad Hospitals in Nacharam where she was administered a unit of blood in the morning and another in the evening.

However, during the night her health started deteriorating and she vomited and developed rashes on the right hand, Vaishnvi's father Sudhakar said. By the morning of January 4, her right hand bloated to a large extent which alarmed the parents. They informed the doctors who rushed her to Apollo hospital without explaining the reasons for her condition. After a day spent in observation, the Apollo hospital officials told the parents that the right hand is infected and needs to be amputated immediately as any delay would endanger Vaishnavi's life. "Unable to decide what to do and the Apollo doctors not giving time to seek a second opinion we agreed to the amputation," Sudhakar said.

The hapless parents received another rude shock when three days ago another doctor told them that infection has started on the left hand too and that too must be amputated. If that was not enought, the hospitals slapped them with a bill of Rs 20 lakh in addition to the Rs 4 lakh already paid by Sudhakar. Perhaps making most of the situation, the hospital also collected blood from over 100 volunteer blood donors in the name of Vaishnavi.

Fearing for the safety of their daughter from the hospital, parents of Vaishanvi are now demanding intervention from the state government to save Vaishnavi.
