Hospital canteen sealed as prohibited dal found
Visakhapatnam: The Food and Safety Department of Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation temporarily sealed the canteen of Seven Hills Hospital for serving `kesari dal' instead of red gram on Monday evening.
Food safety officer of GVMC G V Apparao and his team visited the canteen and seized 375 kg of kesari dal, the use of which is prohibited in India, he said. Kesari dal resembles the red gram when polished and is often mixed in the red gram as it cheaper than the latter.
The hospital management claimed that the canteen was outsourced to Srivari Caterers. Elsewhere, the food safety officials also seized around 300 kgs of illegally stocked red gram from Poorna market area in the city.
