High Court Quashes YSRCP MLA Roja's Suspension

High Court Quashes YSRCP MLA Roja's Suspension - Sakshi Post

Hyderabad: In a major relief to firebrand YSRCP MLA RK Roja, the High Court of Andhra Pradesh has issued  interim orders quashing her suspension from the AP Legislative Assembly for one year.

This is a major shot in the arm for the Nagari MLA, who has always argued that her suspension for one year was illegal. Since the order is of interim nature, the hearing would continue after four weeks. Roja's counsel Indira Jaisingh said the verdict was a vindication of the rule of law. MLA Roja said this was a victory of democracy and also the victory of the voters of Nagari, who have voted in favour of her to represent them. She said she would attend the Assembly on Thursday. She said she would continue to wage a relentless battle for the people.

Justice A Ramalingeshwara Rao of the High Court at Hyderabad, who heard the arguments on Wednesday, delivered the verdict on Thursday. The verdict also said that Roja could attend the assembly from Thursday

Roja, who was suspended for a period of one year from the Assembly, questioned the decision of the Speaker. She said the rules prescribe that the MLA could be suspended only till the end of the session and not for an year. When attempts for speedy justice at the High Court did not succeed, the YSRCP MLA moved the Apex Court. The Apex Court on Tuesday directed the High court to hear the case on Wednesday and deliver the verdict within a day.
YSRCP MLAs Giddi Eswari and Uppuleti Kalpana have hailed the court verdict and said this was a victory of democracy.
