High Alert in 3 Districts: Army Begins Rescue Operations in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Telangana Government on Saturday announced ‘High Alert’ in three districts-- Karimnagar, Adilabad and Nizamabad. Sri Ram Sagar project (SRSP) has reached full water level as it has been receiving huge quantum of flood water.

T Harish Rao, Major Irrigation Minister, said: “Sri Ram Sagar project will reach full tank level tonight. Gates will be opened anytime from now. We have announced high alert in three districts and caution people on the down stream to be alert.” Sri Ram Sagar project is receiving over 3.60 cusec of water due to heavy rains across Telangana, Vidarbha, Konkan region and Goa.

Army Begins Rescue Operations in Hyderabad

Acting upon the request call made by Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhara Rao, army on Saturday entered the twin cities by taking up helping and relocating people from flood-affected areas. Four army troops have been deployed in the city and have started working in co-ordination with GHMC officials. Telangana government has already set up a three-member pane to co-ordinate with army and NDRF troops.

Army helped several people in Alwal and provided food packets. Medical kits have been kept ready. Four NDRF troops have already been engaged in helping in the flood-affected areas.

NDRF officials Madhusudhan Reddy and Selvem said two more troops would come from Pune. They met Revenue Secretary K Pradip Chandra and participated in a review meeting on flood situation in the city. NDRF officials said that one team is being sent to Nizamabad and another team for Medak districts, while two teams will remain in Hyderabad.

23 people trapped in Manjira

Rescue operations by the officials and local people were going on to pull out 23 people trapped in Manjira river in Medak district. The 23 people are identified as construction laborers, who’re going across Edupayalu and caught up in flood on unexpected rise in water level. They have been trapped in Manjira river, which is in spate at Edupayalu in Papannapet mandal. Deputy Speaker Padma Devendar Reddy instructed officials to save the people caught up in flood. Manjira river is in spate at Edupayala as water released from Singur project to Ghanpur ayacut. The water level on Saturday increased to five feet from three feet previous day.

In an awful incident, a woman with her kid washed away at Velpuru in Nizamabad district. Mother and her two-year-old boy swept away in flood water at Padgal in Nawab cheruvu. They were going to Phadgal from Armoor in a car. While trying to go across the overflowing water, the car was stuck in the flood water and later swept away.
