Heavy Rains Wreak Havoc in Guntur, Prakasam
Guntur: Normal life in several parts of Guntur and Prakasam districts is disturbed due to the heavy rains. Life was thrown out of gear. A 500-meter railway track near Gurajala gate between Guntur and Macharla has been washed out due in the flash flood. All train services were suspended in the region. Several houses were submerged in Gurajala town and Palanadu region.
Durgi received highest rainfall of 27.3 cm. Erravagu in Karampudi in spate. Floodwater entered into houses in Goli and Rentachintala villages. The flood water gushed onto the streets disrupting transport activity. Floodwater is inundating agriculture fields, cutting off roads and rail tracks in Guntur and Prakasam districts. People in several villages, towns climbed onto their rooftops or upper floors as water marooned the ground floors. Addanki-Narkepalli highway connecting Telangana was damaged with flood water. Macherla received 17cm rainfall.
Heavy to very heavy rains forecast in Telangana
In Hyderabad also, heavy rains continued to torment the capital city of Telangana from Monday night. Dilsukhnagar, LB Nagar, Kothi, Khairatabad, Punjagutta, Ameerpet, SR Nagar, Erragadda, Kukatpalli, Banjara Hills and Jubilee Hils areas had standing water. Balanagar, Saroornagar and Shaikpet received 2 cm rain so far.
Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhara Rao has directed officials to be cautious and take measures to protect people and prevent property loss due to heavy rains. KCR also passed orders to set up control rooms at every district headquarter. The Chief Minister has ordered for relocating people from low-lying areas to safer places.
Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma and GHMC officials are monitoring the situation of drainage, power supply and other civic amenities. A control room has been set up in Hyderabad and citizens can call (040 23454 088) in case of any emergency.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts heavy rains for Wednesday as well. Heavy to very heavy rains in Telangana are likely due to the low pressure area over west and mid Bay of Bengal.

Heavy rains accompanied by thunder to continue till Wednesday. 119 action teams, central emergency teams are working round the clock, said officials. GHMC Commissioner has advised people in the city not to come on streets unless it’s very necessary. Telangana Health department has made arrangements by keeping medicines and other emergency services available 24 hours.
