Heavy Rains Pound Chittoor District

Tirupati: Chittoor district witnessed heavy rains under the impact of Cyclone Vardah. As a precautionary measure, the Andhra Pradesh Government declared one-day holiday for schools on Tuesday.

Atop Tirumala, pilgrims faced severe hardships with 12 cm rainfall. Water stagnation in the Mada Streets too created problems for the pilgrims. The TTD had to use motors to pump water out of the streets.

Along the Ghat Road, several trees fell down and there were landslides at a few places. Two cars were destroyed as uprooted trees fell on them.

Met officials said that the rains could continue till Tuesday evening. Varadaiah Palem in the district witnessed the highest rain fall of 35 cm.
