Hearing on Jagan's plea adjourned to Jan 22
The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Friday adjourned the hearing on the bail petition of Kadapa MP and YSR Congress President YS Jagan Mohan Reddy to January 22.
On Friday morning soon after the bail arguments began, the CBI requested the court to extend some more time to it as its senior lawyers were unavailable. The CBI sought time till 18th or 21st of this month. Jagan's lawyers strongly objected to the CBI request.
Since the Court has Pongal holidays from Saturday, the court decided to hear the arguments on Jan 22.
Jagan had filed the petition in the High Court after the CBI Special Court rejected his bail plea.
Earlier, in the petition Jagan's counsel had raised several points for consideration by the court. The counsel said that the
CBI has to complete the investigation in all the seven related cases in 90 days and submit its investigation report as assured by it to the Supreme Court. This process should end by January 04, 2013 accordingly, the counsel said.
The CBI lawyers argued that the Supreme Court did not specify any date in its order.
The High Court Judge pointedly asked the CBI counsel that - if a date was not stated in the SC court order does that mean the agency can prolong the investigation for an indefinite period.
The court also directed the CBI to file a status report on the case today.
