Head Constable Caught Red-Handed Taking Bribe For His Bosses

Nellore: A head constable was trapped by ACB while accepting a bribe of Rs26,000 from a liquor shop owner in Bucchireddypalem in Nellore district on Wednesday.

The accused Venkateshwarlu, a resident of the same village demanded a bribe from Challa Venkateshwarlu Reddy, owner of Vamsi and Padma wines as a monthly routine payment to the department. The wine shop owner approached the ACB as the constable was harassing him for the bribe. In the process, Reddy's wife Padma asked the constable to collect the money at home. The constable then went to Reddy's home and took the cash where the ACB sleuths caught him red-handed.

The ACB sleuths were already in the house caught the constable red-handed. During the inquiry the accused is reported to have said that DCP Tirumalesh Reddy, CI Subba Rao, SI Sudhakar Reddy all the officers of the department have part in the bribe. "On the order of the higher officials, I have taken the bribe" he said.

All the 10 wine shops in the town would give Rs13,000 every month and every officer has share in it, the constable told the ACB. The DCP of ACB Thota Prabhakar is investigating the case.

Earlier, the victim Challa Venkateshwarlu lodged a complaint with the ACB that he has lost almost Rs25 lakh in the form of monthly payments to the police.
