Harish Rao To Meet Centre Over Farmers’ Plight

Hyderabad: The centre's apathy towards red gram and jowar farmers in Telangana has made agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy and marketing Minister Harish Rao worrisome. The ministers have taken a call to meet the Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan in Delhi on February 15 regarding low purchase of yield from the farmers.

Elaborating on the situation, Harish Rao said that so far the centre has procured 1.70 lakh tonnes of red gram while 1.5 lakh tonnes is still remaining with the farmers in the state. Meanwhile, the leader added that the opposition is playing cheap tactics with the purchase of red jowar.

"The Congress party which ditched the red jowar farmers in 2007 without paying dues to farmers had no right to speak now, the ministers said. They said that Nizamabad MP Kalvakuntla Kavitha took up the problems of red jowar farmers to the notice of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao," he told the media.

Both the ministers said that they are taking out measures to alleviate farmers distress saying they would bail out for jowar farmers.
