Guntur hospital to have skin bank
Guntur's Government General Hospital is all set to have a skin bank to help the people suffering from burn injuries.
The Guntur Medical College alumni pooled up Rs.20 crore for the same while NRI doctors extended support for starting this. There are only four skin banks in India and GMC bank would become the fifth. Skin banks will help burns patients to get back normal skin through plastic surgery. Human skin can be frozen and kept viable at low temperatures by using cryo-protective media containing glycerol or dimethyl sulfoxide.
