Good News For Transco Employees

Hyderabad: Here is good news for Transco employees appointed between February 1, 1999 to August 31, 2004.

The top management of the department is gearing up to implement General Provident Fund (GPF) instead of Employee Provident Fund (EPF) for these employees. It may be recalled that in June 2016, the state energy minister promised implementation of GPF among other demands of Telangana Electricity Trade Unions Front. In this regard, the Transco also undertook a study to understand the financial burden that it would incur with the implementation of GPF. According to Transco officials, about 4,717 employees would benefit from the implementation of GPF. Also, Transco and other energy departments would incur an additional burden of Rs 792.22 crore in this regard. Adding pension amount of Rs 1,068.17 crore and gratuity of Rs 175.49 crore, the total expenditure for Transco would be around Rs 1,243.66 crore.

Transco CMD D Prabhakar Rao wrote to the state government for permission to implement GPF for the said employees. A break-up of the number of beneficiaries and their departments is given below, after the state government approves the scheme:

  • 163 employees - Transco
  • 1,304 - Genco
  • 1,636 - TSSPDCL
  • 1,614 - TSNPDCL
