GHMC Worker Electrocuted While Fixing LED Light
Hyderabad: In a tragic incident, a GHMC worker died after he was electrocuted while fixing an LED street light at Moghalpura in the city. The victim was identified as Miraj.
Installation of LED street lights is being taken up by the Telangana government with Rs272 crore in the state. As part of the seven-year contract, the GHMC should replace the 4.6 lakh existing street lights with new LED lights before Diwali.
The state government would be giving Rs260 to the contractor for installing each LED street light. However, the contractors are engaging unskilled workers by paying them a paltry Rs120 for fixing each street light.
Meanwhile, the co-workers alleged that the contractors are engaging unskilled workers for low wages. The police registered a case under accidental death.
