Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is planning to issue Aadhaar cards for newborns along with birth certificates at government hospitals under the Sishu Aadhaar Project. As part of the latest drive taken by Telangana Government ‘Happy Babies Telangana Babies,’ citizens will get certificates directly at hospitals.
So far, the government generally asks citizens to apply for birth certificates.
Surendra Mohan, Additional Commissioner (IT) of the GHMC, said: “From now onwards, all the new born babies in government hospitals will be Aadhaar-enrolled and their birth certificates will be issued within seven days.”
The Health Department, GHMC and ITE are supporting the project.
The birth defects registry is based on the birth certificate. Birth defects reported on the birth certificate and all other data elements are part of the birth defects registry.

The move would help in pushing the Aadhaar/birth certifi-cate/defect certificate into a digital locker of the newborns and will also help the health department monitor delivery of all welfare and health-related benefits to an infant, tracking the child from birth to immunisation to school admission.
Surendra Mohan further added that it would seek to serve as a database of children for timely and assured delivery of services. The hospital head will sign for verification documents for Aadhaar. The Aadhaar enrolment will be free for children.
