GHMC Takes Up City Road Repairs On War Footing

Over 2,100 potholes were identified in 581 locations - Sakshi Post

Hyderabad: Heavy rains in the city for the last couple of days have left the roads with potholes which caused lot of discomfort to commuters. Following a flood of complaints from the public, the GHMC on Wednesday finally decided to close all the potholes on city roads.

The GHMC Commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy along with higher officials held a special meeting to fill up the potholes based on the priority of the roads in the city. According to reports, over 2,100 potholes were identified in 581 locations. The commissioner also has given 10-day deadline for the project.

Around Rs23 crore was estimated to repair the damaged roads and filling up the potholes. The GHMC also decided to go with the contractors instead of notifying tenders. "The cement concrete roads will take some more time as it involves technical and traffic issues. As per procedure, municipal authorities have to call for tenders for works above Rs1 lakh. Since even short term tenders are a time consuming process, the works will be allotted to the contractors," said the commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy.

Continuous downpour in last year and recent rains has damaged roads in several areas.
