GAIL tragedy: Death toll rises to 17

With one more person succumbing to severe burn injuries, the death toll in the GAIL pipeline fire tragedy at Nagaram village of East Godavari rose to 17.

Rayudu Surya Narayana succumbed to his injuries at the Kakainada hospital. He suffered 85 per cent burns when the leaking gas pipeline of GAIL caught fire and triggered a blast.

Earlier in the day a baby girl undergoing treatment for severe burns died  at a private hospital in Kakinada. Condition of five more injured persons remains critical. 

The Andhra police today filed a fresh case against state-run GAILBSE -0.79 % in connection with the yesterday's tragedy.
