Four Bodies of Suspected Woodcutters Belong To Tamil Nadu

Kadapa: The bodies of five men, which have been found floating in Vontimitta tank adjoining Kadapa-Tirupati highway on Sunday evening, have been identified as those of men from Salem district in Tamil Nadu, the police said on Monday.

The four bodies have been identified as that of Muragesan, Karriannan, Jairam and Muragesh while another body is yet to be identified. The police have shifted the bodies for postmortem to RIMS hopsital in the district.

On Sunday evening, locals found bodies floating in the tank around 12.30 pm and alerted the police. The police searched the retrieved bodies and their backpacks. They found currency notes along with torch lights. They appeared to be redsander smugglers, police said based on the available evidence.

The Tamil Nadu Special branch police and media personnel arrived at RIMS hospital on Monday. NGOs and political parties termed the killing as murder and demanded a judicial inquiry into the deaths.

Meanwhile, MDMK general secretary Vaiko sought a CBI inquiry into the death of five Tamils. There were doubts among the people over the death and the Tamil Nadu government should clarify the matter with Andhra Pradesh government, Vaiko told reporters here. Since the incident was very shocking and if there were doubts, the Government should seek a CBI inquiry, he added.
