Five killed in road accident in Kurnool
Five persons including four revenue officials were killed today and three others injured after a lorry hit them in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh, police said.
The incident occurred on a highway near Nannur village of Oravakal mandal between Nandyal and Kurnool of the district at around 11.30 am when the lorry ran over a group of 12 government officials including a Mandal Revenue Officer (MRO) who were undertaking land survey work, they said.
The driver of the silicon-sand laden lorry which was on its way from Nellore district to Hyderabad lost control and hit the officials who were standing on the road-side while surveying the government lands adjoining the highway, Kurnool (Rural Circle) Inspector Srinivas Reddy said over phone.
Three officials died on the spot while two others including a Revenue Inspector and a civilian died undergoing treatment at a hospital, the police officer said adding the condition of the MRO Shantabai who was injured in the incident is critical. The lorry driver and cleaner fled the spot after the mishap. Further investigations were underway.
