YSR Kadapa: Five members of a family committed suicide in an alleged suicide pact by jumping into the Mylavaram Reservoir, here on Friday.

They were residents of Rajivnagar Colony in Jammalamadugu of the district. The bodies belong to the head of the family Shaik Waheed, his two wives and two daughters. They have left their belongings including their respective Aadhar cards, clothes, phones, footwear and travel bag besides other personal belongings on the banks of the reservoir before resorting to the extreme step.

Aadhar Cards and other personal belongings left by Waheed’s family members before resorting to the extreme step.

According to locals who knew the family, Waheed's two elder brothers died in separate road accidents. Both were professional drivers. Fearing that the same fate may befall Waheed too, a few relatives insisted that he give up driving as a profession. Consequently, he was forced to stay at home. Financial problems crept-in which were compounded by life-threatening illness for Waheed's two wives. Neighbours suspect that these problems might have forced the family to resort to suicide.

As of late on Friday, bodies of three women were fished out of the reservoir. Search operations are underway to recover two more bodies. Police have, however, not ruled out the possibility of murder.
