Fire Razes Basti to Ashes in Vijayawada, 4 Killed

Vijayawada: At least four persons were killed in fire that broke out when a cooking gas cylinder burst in a thatched hutment in flower market area near Vijayawada railway station on Wednesday razing the entire basti to ashes.Over 150 huts were completely burnt and families lost everything in the accident. People ran away for life as the blaze grew due to wind and hot weather in the afternoon.

Only few people were home as most men left for work and children went to schools. A woman who could not come out of the fire was burnt to death even as the residents tried to save her. Three other unidentified bodies were also found. The rescue operation was going on and full details are yet to come.
