Fire Mishap On Busy Bandar Road In Vijayawada

Vijayawada: A major fire broke out at a textile shop on the busy and bustling Bandar Road in Vijayawada in the wee hours of Tuesday.

The shop, a temporary tin-roofed structure selling ceramic ware and household items, is located on an open plot between a shopping mall and DV Manar Hotel, was reduced to ashes. Thankfully, there were no casualties.

The porcelain ware inside the shop melted and the fire quickly spread to a clothes shop and a hotel. The inmates of the hotel suffered asphyxiation and rushed out of the hotel. Three fire fighters arrived quickly and battled fires for over an hour to bring them under control completely turned to ashes. The flames caught the porcelain materials inside the shop and spread like wild fire between the two buildings. The smoke also spread into the hotel, which caused asphyxiation to the people residing in the hotel.

There was panic as Bandar Road is the business hub of the city and is home to sprawling malls and clothes shops. Three fire fighting vendors arrived at the spot and struggled for an hour to douse the fire. A loss Rs 10 lakh is estimated. The police suspected that the fire break out might be due to a short circuit.

The police registered a case and are probing into the issue.
