Finally Laxmapur farmers agree for land acquisition for Mallanna Sagar Project

Farmers of Laxmapur village on Tuesday finally agreed to the government’s proposal of compensation for land acquisition for Mallanna Sagar project in Medak district. - Sakshi Post

Medak: Clearing the obstacles for Mallanna Sagar Project in Medak district, the farmers of Laxmapur village, which is facing submergence, accepted to evacuate their village and agriculture lands for the project. After the discussions with the village heads and farmers on Tuesday, the villagers agreed to the government’s compensation proposal of Rs.5.85 lakh per acre land as mandated by the G.O No 123.

It is known that Irrigation Minister Harish Rao was instrumental in this breakthrough to clear the obstacles from the Laxmapur farmers who had been agitating for the hike of compensation for land. In the presence of Dubbaka MLA Solipeta Ramalinga Reddy, Thoguta Tahsildar Deshya Nayak and Laxmapur village sarpanch had fruitful talks with the villager heads and village farmers on Tuesday and the latter declared their consent in front of the media persons to give their lands for the project. The entire village is happy with the decision of the compensation of Rs. 5.85 lakh per acre, they said.

Total 150 houses and 300 acres agriculture land-- 200 acres patta and 100 acres assigned - of Laxmapur village is facing the submergence under Mallanna Sagar project. In the background of agitation from the farmers, Telangana Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao invited 40 farmers from 4 villages for talks on July 9.

Minister Harish Rao thanked Laxmapur villagers for the agreement of the proposed compensation and expressed his happiness over the agreement. He also said his government is keen to construct the project as fast as possible and also sought the co-operation from the outsees of the project. He also said that the villagers stood as an inspiration for the entire state in this regard.

Mallanna Sagar project is intended by Telangana government with 50 tmc ft capacity so that it can meet the irrigation requirements of Medak, Warangal and Nalgonda districts. About 12,000 acres from seven villages – four from Toguta mandal and three from Kondapaka mandal – would be acquired.

Government’s promises for the outsees of Mallanna Sagar Project:

=> Fishermen Society will be formed and a G.O will be issued by the government to ensure that the revenue would be shared among the beneficiaries from fisherfolk community.

=> Compensation of Rs.5.4 lakh will be given for the houses with double bedroom and additional payment will be made for the open land on the premises of the house.

=> Nearly 50 percent benefits of SC, ST and BC welfare schemes will be allotted for the outsees of the project.

=> Binama Registation scheme will be applied for those who purchased houses by signing agreements on plainl white papers.

=> Free seats with free education will be given for children of the families of submerged villages in SC, Stand Minority Residential schools.

=> Landless and poor youth will be encouraged by the government by giving them autos and tractors in phases for living as part of rehabilitation.
