Film Review: Vangaveeti

The film is about old feud between Vangaveeti family and Devineni clan - Sakshi Post

Vangaveeti had created quite a sensation even before its release. There was lot of interest because the Vangaveeti-Devineni rivalry has shaped politics in Vijayawada for over two decades. Also, for the firest ever time, Ram Gopal Varma has organised promotional campaign for his movie. Naturally, all these created quite a buzz.

But, will the film live up to the pre-release buzz? Let's see.

Storyline:

The film is about the more than three decade old feud between Vangaveeti family and Devineni clan. There were multiple attacks and loss of life on both sides during the two-decade old battle of attrition. The film showcases how Vangaveeti Radha grows into a big power centre in Vijayawada. How the two families try to eliminate each other, how Vangaveeti clan loses Radha and Ranga and how the clash comes to a bitter end form the sum and substance of the two-and-a-half hour long film.

Performances:

Clearly, Sandeepkumar as Radha and Ranga steals the show. His emoting, his intense looks, acting prowess score full marks. He has proved that he has bright futue ahead. The other actors also do full justice to their roles. Naina Ganguly and Kautilya are pretty and emote too. On the whole, performances are a strong point in the film.

Technical:

Technically, Varma's films are sound. Especially, camera angles, closeups and lighting are his USPs. He had used them to the hilt. The photographer did a great job. Another plus is that the background score is less racous and more effective. Dialogues are good. RGV manages to successfully recreate Vijayawada of 1980s.

Analysis:

The film looks very gripping in the beginning, but loses steam soon. The second half is particularly jarring. More than that, Varma's refusal to be drawn into pronouncing who is right and who is wrong is the biggest weak point. As a result, there is no villain in the film. The film is unlike Raktha Charitra.

Verdict:

RGV is the hero and villain in the film.
