Farmers’ Suicides Due To Lopsided Policies Of AP Govt: YS Jagan

Leader of the Opposition in AP Assembly YS Jagan Mohan Reddy - Sakshi Post

Guntur: Leader of the Opposition in AP Assembly YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday alleged that farmers in Andhra Pradesh are ending their lives due to lopsided policies of the TDP government.

YS Jagan was speaking to media persons at Dhavupalli village of Veldurthi mandal in Guntur district after consoling the family members of chilli farmer Lalu Naik who committed suicide after the prices fell sharply. The family was further driven into a debt trap when Lalu Naik's wife mortgaged her gold to perform the marriage of her daughter.

"After spending Rs 70,000 to cultivate cotton in his two acres, the farmer was able to reap only 10 quintals of produce. After selling the produce for the price of Rs 4,000, he could able to earn only Rs 40,000. Eventually, he incurred a loss of Rs 30,000," YS Jagan said.
