'Farmers committing suicides due to KCR's inefficiency'
Deputy leaders of the Congress Legislature Party in Telangana, Shabbir Ali and Jeevan Reddy, commented that farmers were committing suicides only due to the inefficiency of Telangana Chief Minister K.Chandrasekhar Rao.
Speaking to reporters at CLP office in Hyderabad on Friday, they said, “Banks denying loans to farmers, serious power crisis, drying of crops due to power shortage and others are the reasons for the suicides of farmers in the state.”
They said that the state government has to take responsibility for the suicides of farmers. “Previous Congress government took several measures to stop the suicides of farmers. But, the present KCR government is not providing financial help for the families of those persons who had committed suicides. As many as 197 farmers had committed suicides in the state till now,” said the MLAs.
They demanded that the Government announce an ex-gratia of Rs. 5 lakhs each to the kin of the farmers who committed suicide.
