Exercise caution during summer travel: Railway Police

Secunderabad: The Secunderabad Railway police have issued precautionary guidelines to passengers who are to travel during the summer vacation, when the commuter traffic is known to be high. They have adviced everyone to exercise caution and particularly cautioned women not to wear jewelry during travel.

Addressing the media on Thursday, the Secunderabad Railway SP, Janardhan touched on the various measures that the railway police were taking to secure the life and property of travelling passengers. The SP stated that special police force were deployed on passenger and express trains under their jurisdiction. These included trains departing to Sirpur Kagaznagar, Mahbubnagar, Khammam, Alwal, Medchal and others.

The SP said that they have coordinated with the police stations of all the nine districts in Telangana to provide additional police protection to all the trains departing from Secunderabad, and added that teams such as the Anti-dacoity team and Crime team were ready to assist if necessary.

The SP revealed that robberies were being reported repeatedly from trains that were coming into Secunderabad from Balarsha, Sirpur Kagaznagar, Maharashtra, Anantapur, Wadi and Guntur. He said that even incidents that take place on journeys in such far of places, can be reported here in Secunderabad.

He listed precautionary guidelines for travellers to follow:

• Women passengers should not sit next to the window.
• Beware of people who keep hanging out near the compartment doors.
• Do not accept or consume snacks from strangers, as they may contain sedatives.
• Be seated in your own seats and exercise caution at all times.
• Do not talk to strangers.
• Be on friendly terms with the TC.

SP Janardhan also revealed that armed constables were on board all trains that depart from Secunderabad, who were instructed to open fire in the event of a robbery and apprehend the robbers.
