Escaped Warangal Convict Held In Vizag

Hyderabad: One of the two convicted prisoners, who escaped from the Warangal Central Prison has been caught in Gajuwaka area in Visakhapatnam on Sunday.

"Sainik Singh, who was moving in a suspicious manner in Gajuwaka area of Visakhapatnam was captured by local police. After initial inquiry, the police alerted us and we got verified that he is Sainik Singh," DIG of Prisons (Warangal Range) K Keshava Naidu said.

Sainik Singh from Uttar Pradesh, who was working as a craftsman in the Army, was court martialled for stealing weapon. The other prisoner Rajesh Yadav of Bihar had been undergoing life imprisonment for committing a murder. They were shifted to the Warangal Prison from Cherlapalli Prison here on September 9.

Both the prisoners made a rope of bedsheets to scale the jail wall and escaped between 2.30am and 3am on Saturday, officials had earlier said.

Meanwhile, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Warangal Division) S M Surender Nath said they will bring Singh to Warangal and further verify his mole marks and other features as part of clarification.
